Reception [edit]

The serial has been well received by critics and audiences alike.[24] It became a hit in the UK as well as Denmark, becoming one of several Danish series to do then in recent years.[24] Maggie Brown of The Guardian cited the stiff female person characters, originality and an ability to "uncannily forecast actual developments in Danish politics" equally reasons for its success.[24] Jane Merrick of The Contained published a list of similarities from Series 2 to actual events in present-day U.k. politics following the conclusion of the series in the UK.[25]

The United states critics have been similarly positive, with Newsweek dubbing Borgen "the best Goggle box prove yous take never seen"[26] and bestselling novelist and Entertainment Weekly columnist Stephen King put the series on the top of his tiptop x list of the all-time TV shows of 2012.[27] The New York Times likewise offered praise, describing Borgen every bit a "bleaker, Nordic version of The W Wing" and saying it "finds a remarkable amount of drama and suspense in center-left alliances, pension plans, and televised debates."[28]

With several middle of the road 3/6 star ratings, the Danish media's reaction to the third series was noticeably less positive than for the showtime two serial. Politiken commented that the third series "concluded like a soap opera" and "never succeeded in breaking gratuitous from predictability";[29] with Berlingske's review declaring that whilst the tertiary serial "tied up the loose ends in pretty bows and was, like the residue of the series, well performed, it was too insidiously deadening".[thirty] Tabloid paper BT all the same claimed that the series "finished on a summit" and with this third flavor had "become the best Danish serial in years".[31] The critique came after several months where storylines from the third series in an unprecedented manner for a Danish drama series had sparked media headlines and created hefty debates in real life Danish politics on, among other issues, prostitution and squealer farming, epitomised by Danish MP Mai Henriksen from Conservative People's Political party, who was widely accused by colleagues and journalists of advocating a pecker of rights for prostitutes, solely because she was inspired past Borgen.[32]

Beginning in December 2013, BBC Radio four aired an English-linguistic communication translation of the Danish radio series, entitled Borgen: Outside the Castle, starring Tim Pigott-Smith as Hans Gammelgard.[40] Reviewer Fiona Sturges of The Independent idea the radio version was "wholly pointless", and noted in particular that, dissimilar the tv series, the radio programme was "relegating its female person characters to the fringes, casting them as secretaries and broken-hearted mothers."[41] On the other hand, Gillian Reynolds of The Telegraph gave the radio show a positive review, blessing its complex treatment of the intricacies of the ceremonious service.[42] In 2022 Deutschlandfunk circulate this radio series with German explanations for some of the wordplays such equally MOM=Monday for Momentum=Monsanto.[43]
